Ray Syrja, Visual Artist and Instructor

Artist statement:  "I try to make my artwork a celebration of nature, of life, physical and spiritual. Jasper National Park is such a wonderful creation, I feel compelled to praise it through re-creation.

The Zen of art is life itself.

Artist Bio: I am an artist; a painter.  I work in watercolours, acrylics and computers. I have experimented in fine art and graphic art over the past 30 years. I worked as a full time artist and art instructor for an eight-year period.

As a Workshop Instructor, I have taught with the Jasper Further Education Council, Silvertip Art, JPL Elderhostel Program, A Brush With Watercolour, Jasper Artists Guild and Artra in Edmonton. Courses taught include watercolour landscape, birds & animals, figure drawing, heritage buildings and portraits. I am co-author of two watercolour instructional books. My projects have ranged from fine art shows to billboards; museum displays to restaurant menus; travelling displays to chalk boards. I have participated in many single artist and group art shows; my work has found its way around the world.

"Art is a pigment of the imagination", Darcy Gerdes
