Dreamers
and Doers
In
2004 DTMInc’s documentary film crew traveled over 30,000km – from Medicine
Hat to Demmitt, from Cold Lake to Waterton -
to collect footage on Alberta’s arts and cultures.
What they discovered was an exciting industry with a vibrant history.
Which is surprising in a land perceived by the rest of Canada as the land
of oil and cowboys! The 51 hours of music, dance, art, history, pottery, schools, government, festivals, books…was finally edited into a one hour program to air in 2005. To honour the artists and patrons that have created the current art atmosphere in Alberta and continue to support it, we have a series of arts events planned for the summer – with a final Birthday Bash to take place on October 1 at the Hotel Selkirk in Fort Edmonton Park. The
image above was commissioned by DTMInc as a visual reminder of the symbiotic
relationship we found when traveling. Art
inspired by place. Dreamers
and Doers offers a look at the history of Alberta as viewed through the filter
of art, the artists whose hands have recorded the mood and the moments of our
times. Art has always provided
timely reflections on our society, our country and ourselves. Many cultures have
graced the stage of arts in Alberta. Come
with us as we travel through first peoples and people of firsts.
Famous the world over these figures captured the places they surveyed as
a response to the influence of a space in time without rule or limits.
A creative spirit felt then, alive now in the geography young and
timeless. This
