Interview with Holger Petersen, for Dreamers and Doers.

Q: I find it interesting that the CBC blues radio show is hosted from Alberta.

Holger:  We are actually the only CBC radio show from Alberta on the network.  I think that there is a lot of support for roots music in this province – an inordinate amount.  I think that is partially because we have such a province of volunteers who get behind the folk festivals and the jazz festivals and blues festivals and also because the media in this province has always been great about supporting that.  Especially  CKUA, which is really, I think, the cultural voice of radio for the province of Alberta.  A lot of people that I come into contact with tell me they have been educated by listening to CKUA.  I’ve seen that influence in so many different parts of the music scene in this province.

I think that there are certain kinds of music that have been very important to Albertans and personally I love artists that write about their own province, their own area, their own environment – certainly Ian Tyson comes to mind immediately – he is one of the most respected singer song writers in the world.
